Portraits: Harder than they seem to be
The day finally came where I've finally gave in. Portrait photography, not a stranger, but definitely not my best friend either.
I never got myself thinking that I would be doing this but turns out, portrait photography is not what I expected it to be. Just like the landscape photography I got used to, it's definitely challenging and harder than it looks.
I always thought that it was the easiest type of photography since all you have to do is capture an image of a person with a very creamy bokeh. I guess I'm wrong. Turns out, it's more than that. Portrait photography is more than just a bokeh, or a beautiful face. It's about trying to catch or show a character in one photo.
I guess moving to a place with views that aren't the same as the ones I have seen for the past 20 years or so made me realize that I have to adapt. New York City is not and will never be the same place I've been used to living.
In order to keep the fire burning, you must learn not just to add oil or fuel, you must also learn where to properly place the fire.
It took me about 8 months to realize such.
Thankfully, I have met a wonderful person who somewhat ignited my interest in portrait photography. And I must say that maybe he made this process somewhat easier because learning all on your own is so much harder compared to having a teacher who knows exactly what they're doing. So, thanks!
I guess this is yet another challenge. Gotta learn fast and gotta get new gear, hopefully soon! ;)
Here are some of the photos I have so far. Feel free to criticize them, they're welcome. I'm still learning.
